Conditions of the heart can never be neglected, and some lifestyles practiced today are one of the major causes of medical problems with the heart, the blood vessels and circulation.

These medical problems are too common today and they also represent the first causes of death. This is prevalent in developed countries.

When we talk about medical problem with the heart, the following are the most common diseases:-

• Arrhythmias (changes in the heart rhythm), angina pectoris (coronary artery spasms), heart attack due to the blockage of blood and stroke.

As one gets older and as the years goes by, there’s always some changes that occur in circulatory system which the body experiences. For instance, the heart rate will slow down thereby making the heart slightly enlarged and the arteries go off their flexibility and at the same time causing increase in blood pressure.

As this is the normal part of the aging process, these changes should not be alarming. The heart function will continue normally but the individual should be careful to follow healthy habits regarding the heart and circulation.

Arrhythmia which is also referred to as an irregular heartbeat appears when the electric impulses which bring about coordination of the heartbeat do not work properly and accurately. When this happens, the heart can beat slowly, too quickly or even in an erratical manner.

Arrhythmia is of different kinds. When the heartbeat is rapid is known as Tachycardia, when the heartbeat is slow is known as Bradycardia. Irregular heartbeat is termed atrial fibrillation.

Symptoms of Heart Disease

In getting to know about heart conditions, some heart conditions may show no symptoms but the symptoms of heart disease is dependent upon the type a person has specifically. When the following symptoms is experienced, it may indicate a problem of the heart.

• Chest pain or angina, difficulty breathing, swelling due to retention of fluid or edema, fatigue.

The following signs and symptoms may indicate heart attack;-

• Chest pain
• Nausea
• Stomach pain
• Breathlessness
• Sweating
• Swollen ankles
• Leg pain
• Jaw pain
• Back pain
• Choking sensation

When the heart stops and the body no longer functions, heart attack has led to cardiac arrest. When this happens, the person involved needs immediate medical attention. Call 911, provide immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation

There are some factors that can increase the risk. These factors include:-

• Smoking
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Dietary choices
• Overweight
• Obesity

2. Complex carbohydrates: Complex carbohydrates can be found in whole grain bread and pasta and in brown rice, potatoes and yam.
3. Diet low in cholesterol
4. Low – salt diet
5. Olive oil seeds and nuts provide the best quality of fat for the cleansing and flexibility of veins and arteries.
6. To help strengthen the heart and the circulatory system, adopt exercise regularly.
7. A good and healthy body mass index is between 20 – 30.
