Good foods that reduce Gastritis
There are certain foods that reduce gastritis which are quite appropriate for individuals suffering from gastritis. These foods also help to prevent gastritis since they act to reduce or stop it from occurring in time to come.
In one of my previous posts, I wrote about foods that trigger gastritis which can be found here. I gave a brief discuss on gastritis and its symptoms but that won’t stop me from giving a hint on it still.
What is Gastritis?
It is simply the inflammation of the gastritis mucosa or stomach lining usually caused as a result of bad dietary habits or by aggressive substances introduced into stomach. There are two types of this ailment called gastritis.
They are: acute and chronic gastritis. In essence, some individuals with gastritis may not experience or have the symptoms; however, the two types of gastritis (acute and chronic gastritis) seem to have signs and symptoms of vomiting, loss of appetite, belching, abdominal pain, bloating, ingestion and nausea.
Causes of Gastritis
There are main causes of gastritis; they are: H. pylori or Helicobacteria pylori and (NSAIDs) a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. But there may be other causes such as autoimmune problems, disease such as Crohn’s disease, isolated granulomatosis gastritis etc.
As a matter of fact, gastritis may be provoked by chemical irritants which may aggravate the gastritis symptoms and as such should be stopped or reduced. This is one of the reasons I made this post because some dietary habits seem to provoke gastritis. Therefore, I’m going to list the foods that reduce gastritis.
List of foods that reduce Gastritis
There are dietary changes like chamomile tea or ginger team with honey which will soothe the symptoms of gastritis while garlic, apples, cranberries, onion and celery will definitely stop the growth of the bacterium that causes gastritis H. pylori).
Therefore, the following are the list of foods that reduce gastritis. They are:
- Apple
- Cherimoya
- Avocado
- Carrots
- Potatoes
- Oats
- Tapioca
- Rice
- Squash
- Sauerkraut
Apple
Apples are made up of fiber (soluble) pectin in particular as well as tannins whose primary function is to reduce inflammation of digestive mucosa that may have been affected by colitis or gastritis.
The ones that are best tolerated are apple compote and baked apples.
Cherimoya
As one of the foods that reduce gastritis, the work of this food is to neutralize excess acid and also protect the stomach lining or the gastritis mucosa. This is best carried out using the creamy pulp of the cherimoya.
Avocado
Avocado is among the foods that reduce gastritis and this is the reason it is recommended in cases of gastritis. Avocado soothes the gastritis mucosa.
It also reduces gastric inflammation and protects the stomach lining or the gastritis mucosa. Like cherimoya, it also neutralizes excess acid.
Carrots
Carrots are quite rich in provitamin A with enormous vegetable fiber content which helps regulate the production of gastric juice. It also reduces or neutralizes excess acid.
As one of the foods that reduce gastritis, it helps relieve stomach pain thereby offering healing when gastritis cases arise. It may be enjoyed raw, cooked or in juice.
Potatoes
Potatoes are only pleasant and also soothe the stomach when they are prepared healthfully (baked, boiled, puree). When fried, it cannot offer what we want regarding gastritis. The function of potatoes is due to their antacid effects.
Other benefits come from the sedating substances they contain and coupled with their soft texture. In curing gastritis, they contribute decisively.
Oats
The mucilage in oats act to soothe and also protect the stomach lining or the gastritis mucosa. As one of the foods that reduce gastritis, oatmeal is a good food recommended for people with gastritis.
Tapioca
Like oats, tapioca is also rich in mucilage which is provided by its floor. The mucilage in tapioca floor makes available soothing and protective effects right in the digestive tract.
It is of good dietary benefit when prepared in vegetable broth. This is especially recommended for people suffering from gastritis.
Rice
Rice offers astringent effects which acts to dry the mucosa. The effect rice offers is quite anti-inflammatory in the intestine and stomach. With their astringent property, they are recommended in cases of gastritis.

Squash
With the function of squash pulp, excess acid is being neutralized. This also helps protect the stomach lining or the gastritis mucosa.

- Thyme
- Scallions
- Legumes such as lentils, peas and beans
- Onions
- Green leafy vegetables
- Kale
- Celery, fruits and berries.
The above mentioned foods are the home remedies that may help soothe the symptoms.
According to medicinenet.com, in treating gastritis and it is found that NSAIDs are one of the causes or it’s the main cause, it is recommended to stop the use of the drug in order to fight gastritis.
Also remember that home remedies do not treat the symptoms or underlying cause of this disease.
