Consuming special foods can’t help in getting rid of asthma symptoms but there are foods to avoid for asthmatics because some food you eat may likely have an influence.

Wine or bear

Beer can aggravate asthma attacks because various additives and brewer’s yeast used in its production. Asthma-causing additive like sulfites are usually added to wine during production.

It is recommended you eliminate or reduce the intake of wine or beer since they are seen as part of foods to avoid for asthmatics. Again, researches find that histamine in wine causes symptoms such as sneezing, watery eyes and wheezing.

Shrimp

It could be somewhat risky with frozen shrimp or prepared ones. You may even suspect the presence of sulfites because seafood and frozen shrimp often have sulfites in them as they discourage unappetizing black spots growth.

For individuals who eat out, watch out to avoid eating foods cooked in a broth prepared with shellfish or shrimp.

Salt

Diet low in sodium or salt helps alleviate asthma and diminishes the need for medication (anti- asthmatic). Therefore, being mindful of how much salt you consume is worth it.

Fish

Fish, especially when it is not fresh contains histamine and this provokes all sorts of allergic reaction. If the fish is not properly stored, it also contains histamine.

Additives

Additives cause allergic reactions, and even asthmatic crises. For instance, a flavor enhancer (monosodium glutamate, sulfites which is used as preservatives in wine and dried fruits), sodium nitrite and nitrate, artificial colorings are all dangerous for asthmatics.

Maraschino cherries

They seem quite beautiful like colored jewels but it is not for anyone with asthma, who is somewhat sensitive to sulfites. Bottled fruits juices or canned fruits like lime juice or lemon also contain additives or preservatives that could aggravate symptoms of asthma or bronchospasms.

Packaged or prepared potatoes

Take a look at the ingredients when you want to make mashed potatoes. You have to think twice as on the list, you’ll like come across a preservative like sodium bisulfite. Some other ingredients may include; more salt, vegetable oil, whey powder and dried nonfat milk.

Dried fruits

Certain dried fruits have sulfites in them, and the essence of the sulfites is to act as preservatives to elongate the food’s shelf life. Also remember that this additive is one of the additives that are quite problematic for asthmatics.

Be on the lookout as you may likely discover potassium bisulfite or sodium sulfite on the label. For this, we consider dried fruits as one of the foods to avoid for asthmatics.

Pickles

They also contain histamine, which triggers allergies and asthma. The most dangerous of them all are the ones prepared with molds such as blue cheese.

Royal Jelly

The reason why royal jelly is listed among the foods to avoid for asthmatics is because the protein in it can cause asthma attacks and even allergic reactions.

Nuts

Peanuts and walnuts can aggravate asthma symptoms or allergic reactions especially in children.
