Healthful herbs during pregnancy

Some of these medicinal plants are recommended for use from before pregnancy to finish. Example of an herb that can be used from before pregnancy to after pregnancy is red raspberry.

As one of the herbs during pregnancy or even before pregnancy, it helps before pregnancy starts to after it ends. It is considered as the most all-round good herb for the needs of pregnancy, from beginning to end.

According to natural remedies encyclopedia, it is widely used and quite safe for all pregnancy and uterine tonics. It provides vitamins A, C, D, E and B complex. One of the advantages of this medicinal plant as one of the herbs during pregnancy is that:

2. Reduces or eases morning sickness
3. Helps in labor and reduces pain
4. Facilitates easier childbirth
5. It also improves milk production

Red raspberry can be used as tea or taken in form of capsules. It is quite safe as it strengthens the uterus for easier delivery thereby reducing too much bleeding.

Ailments and Recommended Herbs during Pregnancy

During pregnancy, morning sickness is one of the conditions that disturbs pregnant women. Ginger is one of the herbs during pregnancy because it helps in relieving morning sickness, it also reduces vomiting, nausea and steadies the stomach.

Whenever nausea occurs, sip one tablespoon of the tea or take 6 capsules of the powered herb. It can be combined with wild yam. Avoid this herb after 6 months from pregnancy.

Another herb that can be used during pregnancy is peppermint tea which relieves morning sickness, nausea and upset stomach. You can take the tea whenever you need it.

Other herbs that help include: catnip or spearmint tea, green drink or alfalfa. It advised you maintain regular sleep pattern, eating and outdoor exercise.

Dandelion helps in improving appetite and calming the stomach. Take 30 drops of undiluted tincture 3 times daily to stop nausea.

For indigestion and heartburn

Herbs during pregnancy in cases as this are red raspberry and meadowsweet. 15 – 40 drops of tincture in a bit of water 1-3 times daily. It helps as a good digestive aid.

Constipation during pregnancy

Slippery Elm Bark is the recommended herb for use during pregnancy especially in cases of constipation. It takes care of irritable bowels and also soothes the digestive system. As one of the herbs during pregnancy, it is recommended for constipation.

Take one teaspoon of the slippery elm bark powder with hot water and honey. However, you may consider taking 6 capsules daily.

Brewer’s yeast and psyllium seed are quite helpful.

As for swelling during pregnancy, drink peppermint or spearmint tea with fresh lemon juice.

For edema, corn silk tea is quite significant as a diuretic herb.

Anemia

The only plant with almost 50% iron is yellow dock. Individuals who need iron the most are pregnant women. Remember that iron tablets may be very dangerous and can lead to miscarriage.

It is recommended you obtain iron naturally. Apart from yellow dock, blackstrap molasses is the richest natural source of this nutrient (iron). Consider red beet too

Veriscose Veins

Increased pressure in the abdomen is the cause of veriscose veins but normally, it disappears after childbirth. To reduce veriscose veins and tighten the tissue, use witch hazel or white oak bark tea. It should be applied externally.

Have a cloth saturated in the tea and use it to wipe on the legs, vulva or near the rectum. Other helpful herbs during pregnancy are nettle leaf tea, garlic, green leafy vegetables, onions. However, stop or avoid crossing your legs.

Another one among herbs during pregnancy is the bilberry plant. The European bilberry contains flavonoid compounds which aids circulation in the smaller blood vessels.

Studies have it that they prevent and also treat veriscose veins that often takes place during pregnancy.

Additionally, horse chestnut helps reduce veriscose veins. As u exercise daily, take 5 – 15 drops of tincture which is diluted in 1/4 cup of water 3 times daily. So this during the first few months.

Hypertension

The herb that reduces hypertension during pregnancy is hawthorn berry. It helps in dilating the blood vessels and also strengthens the heart. Take 8 drops of the tincture 2 times every day.

However, do not eat meat, white sugar or white flour products. Ensure you ads more vitamins A and C to your diet.

Uva ursi takes care of bladder infection. Drink cranberry juice and avoid coffee, sweet, black tea, cola drinks. Echinacea also reduces infection.

To avoid miscarriage use the following herbs

Black Haw and False Unicorn

Black haw root bark has astringent effect and increases the tone and firmness of the uterine tissues. For those that may have had repeated miscarriages, black haw is recommended. It helps prevent premature labor.

Drink 2 cups of the tea daily, when symptoms disappears, take the tea for another 2 weeks. It reduces excessive menstrual flow.

False unicorn helps prevent abortion because it increases the muscle tone of the uterus. 3 – 4 drops of the tincture 4 times daily is recommended.

During the last six weeks of pregnancy drink the following herb mix

Drink a tea of squaw vine, pennyroyal, black cohosh, red raspberry, lobelia (a pinch).
